Abstract

The objective of the study was to identify the impact of nitrification inhibitors (DCD and DMPP) on nitrification rates, measured by nitrate formation and N2O production, under controlled temperature and moisture conditions in laboratory incubation experiments. The package contains data on soil mineral nitrogen and N2O levels measured over 70 days.

Methods Info
Step 1:
Description:
Treatments
Treatments applied were;Control,Ammonium sulphate and Ammonium nitrate (250 ug N/g soil),Ammonium sulphate and Ammonium nitrate (250 ug N/g soil) + DMPP,Ammonium sulphate and Ammonium nitrate (250 ug N/g soil) + DCD.
Step 2:
Description:
Incubation Study
Soil was incubated at controlled moisture content (60 and 85% Water filled pore space) for 70 days. Soil was extracted on a regular basis for measurement of mineral N (ammonium and nitrate). Gas samples were collected periodically for N2O with a flux of N2O emission determined for each sample time using a dynamic flow system.
Instrument(s):
  • Skalar SAN++ Segmented flow analyser
  • Agilent GC 7860 for CO2 (TCD), N2O (ECD) and CH4 (FID)
Sampling Area And Frequency:

Study was conducted over 4 months using replicate (3) samples for each sample time. Each incubation study ran for 70 days.

Sampling Description:

Treatments were randomly assigned to each vial. Each sample extracted was a complete vial sample and 3 replicates were used at each sample collection time
